The data and observations which form the basis for this work have been gathered in the course of several years. The actual writing, of course, has taken only a very short time.
The present volume is part of a work given over to a subject of universal importance. I have dwelt at such great length upon autoerotism, as the practice or habit of masturbation may be properly called, for the reason that it is one of the most obscure as well as one of the most significant and characteristic manifestations of mental life. Perhaps no other habit, apparently ingrained and so widespread, is so badly misunderstood even by those who take a professional interest in it. On account of the universal ignorance regarding its significance, this habit, like all others which result from undirected erotic trends, is the center of endless difficulties and gives rise to numerous personal problems of an intimate and very troublesome character.
We hear on all sides warnings against the evil consequences of the misunderstanding of the facts of sex. There is perceptible in our midst a growing movement for enlightenment on the subject. But for the most part popular knowledge is as yet very unsatisfactory.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book narrates how the basic sense of touch establishes the very essence of being alive and remains a fundamental arbiter of life even in cultural man. It first emerged as the aboriginal sensory function and as a medium of comfort and pleasure. The author underscores that all our primal functions are endowed with pleasurable sensuality, and touch, in this sense, is a mother of all other sensations, a concept supported by genetic correlations between tactile experiences and the intensities of numerous emotions and cravings in humans. The book offers a deep exploration into how tactile pleasure is not limited to nourishment but also extends to sexual reproduction, establishing a fundamental connection between the two. The author discusses the prominence of the skin as an erogenous zone, since it's densely packed with nerve endings that transmit sensations of pleasure. Furthermore, the book investigates the role of touch in cultural and artistic expression. Overall, this book profoundly examines touch's centrality to an array of human experiences.
