The favourable reception given to my previous volume, In the Time of the Pharaohs, has encouraged me to continue my task of presenting the subject of Egyptology in popular form. The present essays were originally delivered as lectures before a cultured audience in theM usee Guimet, or written for the readers of the Revue de Paris. Although as yet the results of the scholars labours in Eastern fields have not become part of the general knowledge of the educated classes, or even of the schools and of the historians, there is in the public mind a growing interest in the discoveries made in Eastern history and art, and also an increasing demand for first-hand information presented, in non-technical language, by the specialists themselves.

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a thoughtful examination of the reign of Queen Hatshepsut and the religious upheaval led by Amenophis IV. The author delves into the historical context of ancient Egypt, providing insights into the cultural and religious beliefs that shaped these two pivotal figures. Hatshepsut, one of Egypt's most successful female pharaohs, ruled during the height of the New Kingdom and left a legacy of architectural wonders, including the magnificent Karnak Temple. Amenophis IV, on the other hand, sparked a monotheistic revolution by replacing the traditional pantheon with the worship of the sun god Aton, an act that had far-reaching consequences for Egyptian society. Through detailed analysis of archaeological evidence and historical texts, the author sheds light on the motivations and impact of these remarkable rulers, offering a fresh perspective on a fascinating period in ancient Egyptian history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
