Présentation de l'éditeur

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Biographie de l'auteur

Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet (15 August 1771 – 21 September 1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet, popular throughout much of the world during his time. Scott was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime, with many contemporary readers in Europe, Australia, and North America. His novels and poetry are still read, and many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature. Famous titles include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian and The Bride of Lammermoor. -wikipedia

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a personal narrative by the author of classic novels such as Waverly, and includes the history of the author's family and ancestry, along with tales and legends which provided inspiration for his novels. The narrative begins with an "Introduction" in which the author explains his reasons for finally revealing his identity after years of writing anonymously. The author then segues into tales which would later serve as inspiration for his novels. These include the tale of the Highland Widow, and the tale of the Two Drovers. The author provides historical and social context for each tale, giving the reader a sense of the time and place which produced them. The author's style is marked by charm and wit, and his deep love for his native Scotland shines through every page.
