Nearly all the leading institutions of learning have established chairs of oratory, or forensics, and many hiuhschools and normal schools are devoting considerable attention to the subject. The great number of intercollegiate and inter-preparatory school contests in so many of the States is an additional sign of the growth of interest in public speaking. The reason for this increased attention is not far to seek. Educators have come to recognize that they training derived from this study is not only practical, but in the highest degree educational. Such training results in the undoubted advantage that comes to one who can express himself forcibly in public ;and, further, it gives the unique cultiu-e that can be derived only from actual contact with the thought of the great statesmen and orators of the past.
