The principal excuse for a new book on the eternal problem of matter and mind is just the fact that the problem is eternal. And not only is it eternal: it is so complex that there is no end of illuminating ways in which it may be presented. A further excuse, if it be needed, is to be found in the many new attitudes toward the question which contemporary thought has suggested. A fairly rapid survey of the various answers, old and new, which have been given to our question a birds eye view, so to speak, of this ancient problem in its modern setting seems to be called for by the times in which we live. The need for such a review becomes more patent the moment one stops to consider the absolutely central place of the mind-body problem in metaphysical speculation, and the fundamental nature of metaphysics in knowledge and in life.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the relationship between mind and body, a fundamental question that has captivated philosophers for centuries. The author explores various theories that attempt to explain this relationship, including materialism, parallelism, interactionism, and dualism. The author argues that dualism, the belief that mind and body are distinct entities, provides the most satisfactory explanation for the complex interactions between our physical and mental states. The author also examines the implications of dualism for our understanding of morality, religion, and the nature of human consciousness. This thought-provoking book offers a fresh perspective on a timeless philosophical inquiry, challenging readers to reconsider the connections between their physical selves and their inner thoughts and experiences. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
