CrA U. EDITORS PREFACE. The present work is a translation oJ ohann Friedrich Herbart sL ehrbuch zur Psychologie, from the second revised edition published in 1834 the date of the first edition being 1816. The fact that Herbart sphilosophical writings have given a great impulse to scientific study and experiment in education is a sufficient reason for including this volume in the International Education Series. He succeeded Krug in 1809, and filled for a quarter of a century afterward the chair long occupied by the celebrated Kant at the University of Konigsberg, supplementing his philosophical labors by founding and directing a pedagogical seminary (or normal school, as we call it in the United States). It is interesting to note that Herbart ssuccessor at Konigsberg was Karl Rosenkranz, also eminent in the philosophy of pedagogy. Although aG erman philosopher and occupying th chair of Kant, Herbart set out from an entirely different basis, and produced a system unlike those of the great geniuses who have made German philosophy for ever memorable. So unlike them indeed, is his sys G. Hartenstein sedition, Hamburg and Leipsic,

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating realm of psychology, exploring the intricate workings of the human mind and its impact on education. Grounded in the philosophical foundations laid by thinkers like Kant and Leibniz, the author presents a unique perspective on how we learn and acquire knowledge. Central to this exploration is the concept of apperception, the process by which new information is assimilated and integrated with existing knowledge. The author meticulously examines the interplay of concepts, sensations, and mental faculties, revealing the dynamics of perception, memory, and thought. Mathematical principles are employed to illustrate the quantitative aspects of mental processes, shedding light on the complex mechanisms that govern our inner world. Moving beyond individual psychology, the book also delves into the social and cultural factors that shape human development. The author emphasizes the importance of education in fostering a "many-sided interest," enabling individuals to navigate the complexities of society and adapt to changing circumstances. By unraveling the mysteries of the mind and its role in education, this book offers invaluable insights for educators, philosophers, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the human experience. The author's profound analysis of apperception illuminates the path towards more effective learning and personal growth, ultimately empowering individuals to reach their full potential. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
