Présentation de l'éditeur
Salvator Rosa as a subject of biographical Memoir, in preference to that of any other illustrious painter of the Italian Schools, I answer; that I was influenced in my preference more by the peculiar character of the man, than the extraordinary merits of the artist.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book offers a detailed examination of Salvator Rosa, a talented Italian painter who lived from 1615 to 1673 during a tumultuous period of societal and political change. The author sheds light on the ways in which Rosa's work was a reflection of and influenced by the historical context in which he lived. This period, marked by the rise of the Reformation, the decline of the art market, and the growing influence of the Church, saw the ascendancy of the Baroque style, a flamboyant and emotional artistic movement to which Rosa's work belonged. The author explores the innovator tendencies of his art by contrasting him to his contemporaries, the Caravaggio and the Spanish Naturalists. Salvator Rosa's art and poetry would have a considerable influence on later artists, especially those of the Romantic period. With chapters dedicated to Rosa's earlier life, specific works, and influence, the author provides an in-depth analysis of one of the most celebrated painters of the 17th Century. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781330341612_0
