Leopold is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. This back-and-forth process creates a 'progress of disputes', and the author explores its complexities, showing that an important characteristic of disputes is an apparent lack of conclusive ending. The book identifies the points over-looked by either party in a dispute, so that these can be accounted for and weighed up, leading to a clearer understanding of the evolving situation between opposing parties. The author argues that even when this clarity is achieved, more effect is produced upon the opposite views than either party is initially able to admit or see, as both parties may be led to take into account things that they would otherwise have failed to notice, and the old phrases and hostile banners may be carefully preserved but they pick up new or modified meanings.
