Excerpt from The Message of Philo Judaeus of Alexandria
I. Many thoughtful persons have wished to become acquainted at first hand with Philo; and yet the scarce ness of Yonge's translation, the expense of Drummond's work, the extensiveness of Philo's writings, and the lack of pointers as to where to search for the grains of gold scattered in that interminable forest of words have discouraged many. There seemed to be need of a brief classified outline of the most important of Philo's utter auces, with rigorous references which might enable him who runs to read.

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents a comprehensive overview of Philo of Alexandria's philosophy and its profound impact on Western thought. Philo, a Jewish philosopher who lived in the first century CE, sought to reconcile the teachings of Plato and Judaism, creating a unique blend of ancient philosophy and religious tradition. Philo's writings cover a vast range of topics, including the nature of existence, divine providence, and the destiny of the soul. He posited the presence of a dual nature within human beings, comprising a corruptible body and an immortal soul. Philo explored the concept of the Logos, the intermediary between God and humankind, which became a central tenet in later Christian theology. This book provides a comprehensive examination of Philo's philosophy, demonstrating its influence on the development of Western thought. It sheds light on the intersection of religion and philosophy in ancient times and offers valuable insights into the intellectual currents that shaped the spiritual landscape of the early Christian era. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
