Cor x. PREFACE. -M- WORD or two of explanation seems called for with regard to some of these miscellanies. I have, in the first place, to apologize for a certain repetition of thought, and here and there, of language, in the case of the Third Part of the dialogue on Positivism and the essay called I mmortality-T houghts. I had not originally intended to include the latter in this volume, but, on reflection, I decided to reprint it here, on account of the in my view paramount importance of the topic with which it deals. I have found nothing more surprising among the many occasions for surprise afforded by the vagaries of modern thought than the manner in which this supreme question, A re we, or are we not, immortal? Is there, or is there not, aH ereafter? is quietly shelved by thinkers of all creeds and schools.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents an intriguing dialogue between a woman and a man who explores the main tenets and concepts of Positivism, a philosophy developed by Auguste Comte that emphasizes the importance of humanity and science in guiding human affairs. The woman, Aimà e, initially expresses great admiration for Positivism, praising its focus on altruism, reverence for the past, and the sovereignty it confers on love. However, as the dialogue progresses, she raises objections to the systematization that Positivism imposes on religious thought, and argues that the human mind should not be confined by a single, overarching system. The discussion delves into the nature of religious systems, the evolution of human thought, and the role of the Zeitgeist or "spirit of the age" in shaping our beliefs. The author's insights will appeal to readers interested in the relationship between science and religion, the history of philosophical thought, and the challenges and opportunities facing humanity in the 21st century.
