In tlie February number, 1879, of a wellknown German scientific journal, Kosmos, Dr. Ernst Krause published a sketch of the life of Erasmus Darwin, the author of the Zoonomia, Botanic G-arden, and other works. This article bears the title of aC ontribution to the history of theD escent-T heory; and Dr. Krause has kindly allowed my brother Erasmus and myself to have a translation made of it for publication in this country. As I have private materials for adding to the knowledge of Erasmus Darwin scharacter, I have written a preliminary notice. These materials consist of a large collection of lettei swritten by him; of his common-place book in folio, in the possession of his grandson Reginald Darwin; of some notes made shortly Mr. Dallas has undertaken the translation, and his scientific reputation, together with his knowledge of German, is a guarantee for its accuracy.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents an overview of the life and works of Erasmus Darwin, an 18th-century physician, philosopher, and poet. Born into a family with a strong medical background, Darwin pursued both medicine and poetry from a young age, eventually establishing himself as both a successful physician and a notable literary figure. His influential writings, including "Zoonomia" and "The Botanic Garden," combined his medical knowledge with his passion for natural history, advocating for a gradualist approach to evolution and challenging prevailing scientific theories of his time. Darwin's work significantly contributed to the development of evolutionary thought and laid the groundwork for future scientific advancements.
