Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the ongoing debate between two historical methods of criminal rehabilitation: the separate system and the congregate method. The author, a leading proponent of the separate system, argues that isolating prisoners is the most effective way to prevent the spread of criminal behavior within correctional facilities. Drawing from historical and international examples, the author demonstrates how the separate system fosters an environment conducive to rehabilitation by eliminating negative peer influences, providing opportunities for individual reflection, and protecting prisoners from further victimization. Additionally, the book explores the ethical implications of exposing prisoners to potentially harmful associations and argues that the separate system aligns better with the goals of justice and reform.
