Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book argues the shortcomings of Materialism, and expounds the urgent need for a return to the true method of ethics. The author believes that Materialism, a doctrine that has triumphed in popular literature and in higher education, is a crisis in modern morality. By reducing all knowledge to the phenomenal universe, Materialists deny the ethical ought, reducing morality to mere physical necessity. The new morality they offer is not a system based on right and wrong, but rather a morality based on comfort or the dictates of physical science. This, the author claims, is a morality devoid of obligation, incapable of yielding ethical imperatives, and wholly inadequate to support responsible human action. The author argues that what we need is a return to Rational Ethics, a system predicated upon reason as the source and substance of truths above sense. Only by grounding ethics in reason, the author contends, can we hope to establish a solid foundation for morality, one that is autonomous, independent of religious systems and physical sciences, and capable of producing a society based on justice and human welfare. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
