The substance of this little book was delivered by myself, in the form of a Lecture, at the Eoyal I nstitution, Albemarle Street, on the I7th of A pril, 1863, and is a record of the observations which I have made during my experiments in Fish Hatching carried on during the winter months. From time to time I have reported progress in the columns of The Field, and have now, by the permission of the Editor, been enabled to embody my notes in these pages.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book provides an early look into the challenges of developing methods for the artificial cultivation of fish and preserving aquatic ecosystems, a practice known today as aquaculture. In the mid-1800s, the author began a series of practical experiments in order to better understand the lifecycle and habits of fish. Through this work, he contributed to the growing movement to conserve natural resources and promote the controlled breeding and raising of fish. He highlights some of the most pervasive challenges to successful aquaculture, such as habitat destruction, poaching, and the impact of predation on vulnerable eggs and fry. His observations provide a foundation for understanding the importance of careful management of aquatic environments and the sustainable practices essential to the growth of aquaculture. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
