The present work is a recension of my Neglected Fact in English History. I haye now the means of acknowledging the critique with which Mr. E, A. Freeman some few years siace distinguished this former essay. An elaborate review from a historian so famous, so able and so instruit is an honor which should be publicly recognized, and I will ayail myself of my opportunity to make some observations upon it. In this critique Mr. Freeman showed that he was unable to see that the proofs which I had adduced threw upon him, and such others as hold similar opinions with himself, the obligation either of disproving those evidences, or of admitting the conclusions to which they lead. Mr. Freeman, however, has done neither the one nor the other.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. A groundbreaking examination into the history of the British people, challenging assumptions about their origins and the nature of Britain's post-Roman period. The author argues that the ethnic makeup of eastern and southern Britain was largely Germanic at the time of the Roman conquest. Despite barbarian invasions, Roman influence continued to pervade many aspects of life, from legal and political institutions to language and religion. The author presents linguistic evidence to demonstrate that the inhabitants of these regions, previously thought to have spoken a Celtic language, in fact spoke a form of early German. The book uncovers a complex and nuanced picture of Britain's past, challenging common misconceptions and shedding new light on a critical era in its history.
