This volume is composed of some of the essays and addresses which, in spite of the many exacting duties of a busy professional life, I have found time to prepare. All but four of the papers here brought together were delivered before Texas audiences, two of the exceptions being written for national educational societies, the third for the Association of Southern Colleges and Preparatory Schools, and the fourth for the Southern Educational A ssociation. The essays and addresses were, in each instance, born of a desire to meet the demands of a practical situation; and were, therefore, concerned, not so much with the presentation of abstract ideals, as with the application of wellrecognized educational principles to the solution of school problems that abound in our day. If there be a unifying principle in the several discussions, it is that of concrete idealism, which is the controlling, characteristic attribute of human evolution, and which insists upon the wisdom and necessity of reckoning with environment in order to obtain desirable results. Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents various essays and addresses by the author, who crafted them while tackling his other professional and personal responsibilities. Crafted for various audiences, these addresses and essays range from educational principles to the development of modern women. Though the book covers a range of subject matter, a unifying theme is found in the concept of concrete idealism, which centers the importance of recognizing an individual's environment in order to achieve a positive outcome. Here, the author offers his unique insight into issues challenging the world, at the time of original publication, such as educational reform, the role of the church, and more. The author's views support the necessity to advance the education of women and cultivate a populace's interest in matters beyond themselves. With his ultimate goal of evolving humanity through education, the author provokes the reader to introspection and encourages a questioning of the status quo to advance a more informed and compassionate society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
