The ideas expressed and the conclusions arrived at in this work, are the result of many years of careful thought and study, coupled with the practical and varied experience of a very busy life in connection with industrial, conunercial and financial affairs, both here and abroad. It is now nearly a quarter of a century, since I first called attention in my book entitled AS cientific Solution of theM oney Question (published in 1894 by the A rena Co., Boston, U.S.A.) to the fraudulent character of the so-called Gold Standard of Value, and to the impossibility of any commodity functioning in its commodity capacity, as either a just measure or an honest expression of Exchange-values. I endeavoured at the same time, to point out a method, by which an invariable monetary unit might be established and maintained: viz.. by definitely fixing the purchasing power of gold or of any other commodity, in relation to wealth generally with reference to time and place, just as the unit of length is fixed by temperature and pressure, and the unit of weight by altitude and atmospheric conditions.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book serves as a scathing critique of the gold standard and the financial systems that have long dominated global economies. The author argues that the gold standard, rather than being a reliable measure of value, is a tool for manipulation by financiers, leading to economic instability and hardship for the working class. Delving into the historical context of financial crises, the author exposes the vulnerabilities of existing systems, particularly highlighting the events leading up to the First World War and the precarious position of nations like Britain. The book challenges conventional economic theories and advocates for a more equitable system that prioritizes the well-being of society over the profits of a select few. Through a blend of historical analysis, economic theory, and insightful commentary, the author unveils the mechanics of financial manipulation and their devastating consequences. The book's exploration of alternative monetary systems and its call for financial reform offer a thought-provoking perspective on the future of global economies and the potential for a more just and stable financial order.
