Synopsis

A journey through places that gain genius from the people who lived there. This nonfiction work blends travel writing, history, and biography to show how cities, villages, and landscapes become luminous when they are linked to great events or remarkable minds. Drawing on stories from Burns country to Florida and beyond, it argues that place and person together shape culture in powerful ways.

- Discover how a location’s character is colored by the lives that touched it.
- Read vivid sketches of historical figures and the moments that defined them.
- See travel writing that connects landscape, memory, and ideas in accessible, engaging language.
- Explore multiple regions through a unifying idea: genius is inseparable from place.

Ideal for readers curious about cultural history, biographical storytelling, and travel writing that reveals how geography and genius intersect.

Présentation de l'éditeur

The author of these pages died inS t. Louis, Mo., October 4, 1919. His last work prior to the accident which resulted fatally, was the preparation and editing of the pages following. His last literary effort was the dictation from his sick-bed of the preface to this book. The arrangement of this book during theS ummer of 1919 was to him a labor of love. In view of the foregoing fact, I have added to this book a biographical sketch based largely on material which has appeared in recent years in theS t. Louis Christian A dvocate. It is felt that those who were interested in my father and his work would like to have this addition to the substantive chapters of the book. I. L. L. New York, N. Y.
