If the perfon employed in the meanefl: ftation, or even the pafienger sfcrvant, were to imagine that he heard the found or faw the foam of breakers, he would be highly rcprehenfible if he were, under the impreffion of modefty, or diffidence in his own judgment, to abftain from communicating his obfervations. When I took up the pen, I had no intention beyond what is exprefled in the title, viz. to attempt to remove prejudices concerning the Jewiffi nation ;thefe prejudices are by no means fo ftrong as they have been in times part; but notwithftanding they have greatly abated, I am firmly perfuaded that there are many and great prejudices ftill in exiftence concerning them, which (after a careful examination of holy fcripture) will be acknowledged to be unfounded.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into a sensitive and often misunderstood subject: the treatment of Jewish people throughout history. The author, a concerned layman of the Church of England, seeks to challenge prevailing prejudices by meticulously examining historical accounts of Jewish persecution. He argues that the suffering endured by Jewish people, from the Crusades to the reign of King Richard I, was often driven by misinterpretations of scripture and fueled by a pervasive hatred, not by the actions of the Jewish people themselves. The author draws on the work of historical figures like Fox, the martyrologist, and Smollett, to illuminate the brutality and injustice faced by Jewish communities. He critiques the widespread belief that Jews were inherently untrustworthy and prone to violence, exposing the harmful nature of such generalizations. The book also explores the theological underpinnings of anti-Jewish sentiment, exposing how a distorted view of Jewish religion was used to justify persecution. By unveiling the historical roots of prejudice, this book offers a powerful and thought-provoking examination of how misunderstanding and fear can lead to tragic consequences.
