Excerpt from Telegraph Engineering
This book is intended for electrical engineering students and as a reference book for practicing telegraph and tele phone engineers and for others engaged in the arts of elec trical communication. It presents in a logical manner the subject of modern overland and submarine telegraphy from an engineering viewpoint, its theoretical and practical aspects being correlated. N o attempt is made to describe all telegraphic devices and to explain their operation, but rather to consider one or more representative types for the accomplishment of the various desired objects, thus per mitting a presentation of the subject matter in proper per spective. The book is the outgrowth of the course in Telegraph Engineering given by the author for a number of years at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of telegraphy, a field that revolutionized communication in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It provides a comprehensive guide to the principles and practices of telegraph engineering, covering both overland and submarine systems. The author takes a practical approach, exploring the technical aspects of telegraph systems and devices, while also considering their historical development and real -world applications. The book explores a range of topics, including simplex, duplex, and quadruplex signaling systems, automatic and printing telegraphy, telegraph office equipment and traffic, and the various types of telegraph lines and cables. It also delves into the theory of current propagation in line conductors and the challenges of transmitting signals over long distances. The book examines the importance of factors like line leakage, insulation resistance, and the speed of signal transmission, ultimately offering insights into the technical limitations and advancements of the telegraph era. The author's deep understanding of the field is evident in the detailed explanations and mathematical demonstrations provided. The book also includes practical problems that help readers solidify their understanding of the concepts presented. This book offers a valuable resource for students of electrical engineering, practicing telegraph and telephone engineers, and anyone interested in the history and technology of electrical communication. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
