Discover a thoughtful, grounded view of mysticism and daily life. In Light Arising, Caroline E. Stephen explores what it means to experience an inner light without getting lost in theory. She argues for a rational mysticism that treats spiritual insight as a real, universal possibility accessible to all.
Drawing from Quaker ideals, the author describes the inner life as a school led by a divine source. This edition speaks plainly about the light within, the relationship between reason and faith, and how spiritual growth changes how we live, work, and relate to others. It offers practical ideas for aligning everyday choices with a deeper sense of purpose.
The book considers how divine illumination varies among people, asks hard questions about universal access to grace, and urges readers to test their beliefs against experience. It also addresses concerns about war, simple living, and the ways one can pursue truth, goodness, and beauty in modern life.
Ideal for readers of spiritual essays interested in a compassionate, disciplined path toward inner truth.

Some amount of repetition will be found in them owing to the fact that the point of view they represent that of Rational Mysticism is not so often distinctly recognised as it is unconsciously occupied. I ts full acceptance involves I believe a certain habitual method of regarding the relation between the inner and outer regions of experience. And in order to make the drift of some of these papers clear to hearers unfamiliar with that method, it seemed on several occasions necessary to state it afresh. To re-write the whole series with a view to getting rid of these repetitions would be not only laborious but dangerous, as suggesting an attempt at something more systematic and adequate than I could achieve.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intriguing concept of Rational Mysticism, exploring the relationship between inner and outer experiences, and how these relate to reason and faith. The author, who describes themselves as a "rational mystic," examines the beliefs and practices of the Society of Friends (Quakers) as a lens through which to understand this type of mysticism. The author argues that the core of Quakerism lies in the belief in an inner light, a divine guidance accessible to all individuals, regardless of their religious background. The book investigates the connection between this inner light and the teachings of Jesus Christ, highlighting the Quaker tradition's emphasis on personal experience and the rejection of external authority in matters of faith. Through a nuanced analysis of Quakerism's distinctive approach to faith, the author offers a compelling argument for the compatibility of deep religious conviction with intellectual freedom. The book ultimately presents a vision of a spiritual life where reason and intuition harmoniously coexist, leading to a profound understanding of God and a sense of peace and joy.
