How memory can deepen faith and renew your life. This thoughtful exploration shows how remembering past grace, guidance, and God’s work can bring comfort, courage, and a clearer path for today.
The book examines memory as a spiritual practice—its power to heal, to restrain pride, and to sustain hope through trials. It weaves biblical motifs with reflections on personal experience, urging readers to use memory to nurture trust in divine care rather than to brood on sorrow.
Ideal for readers of sermons on memory, faith, and spiritual formation, and for anyone seeking practical reflections on how the past informs present trust.

Deuteronomy is a not- able example of the religious uses of memory. It was written during a crisis in the history of the Hebrews, and it is the first serious attempt at a philosophy of that history. The text is at once a statement of its theme and a summary of its main content. It is emphatically the book of remembrance. Under the guidance and protection of Jehovah, Moses had led the chosen race out of the house of bondage to the verge of the land of their adoption. A disorganized band of fugitives had been transformed into a consolidated people. Their wanderings and privations in the wilderness had imparted a stem but salutary discipline to these spiritless helots. The former slaves of Egypt became the conquerors of Canaan. Despite the fierce resistance of surrounding tribes, they established themselves in a land of fertihty and beauty, and their heroical story was transmitted to posterity.

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
