This is a large ambition and I cannot hope to have been wholly successful, but I shall be grateful if my attempt is found in any degree to have subserved its purpose. My grateful acknowledgements are due toD r. G. S. Fulcher of the University of Wisconsin, who has read nearly all the manuscript with great care, and to whom I am indebted for important suggestions, and to my colleague Professor J. O. Thompson whose criticism at all stages of the work and painstaking correction of the proof has been most helpful. A mherst, A. L. K. March, 1911. PREFACE TO REVISED EDITION Recent advances in physical science having made it necessary to rewrite some paragraphs of the earlier edition, especially those relating to X-rays and the electron theory of matter, advantage has been taken of the opportunity to make a few additional changes which class-room experience has shown to be desirable. Certain paragraphs relating to force and motion, which had been, introduced before the section on statics, are now placed among ihcl introductory paragraphs to kinetics, where they fall in better with the logical development of the subject. The electJH -raagnetic units, volt, ampere and ohm, are defined and introducfd earlier than before. The sections on wireless telegraphy havti been made more complete and Ttireless telephony is touche lupon. A section also has been added treating of the flicker photometer. At the end of the volume a short discussion of Carnot scycle and the thermodynamic basis of the al soluto scale of temperature has been introduced as an appendix, also a proof is given of Newton swave formula. Quite a number of new problems have been added, but the old problems have been found to serve their purpose well and are for the most part retained. The author gratefully acknowledges his indebtedness toD r. G. S. Fulcher, and toP rofessors W. E. McE lfresh and D. C. Miller,

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book introduces readers to the fundamental principles of physics, providing a solid grounding in the concepts that have shaped our understanding of the physical world. The author takes an experimental approach, emphasizing the importance of observation and measurement in scientific inquiry. The book covers a wide range of topics, including kinematics, dynamics, statics, fluids, heat, light, electricity, and magnetism. Each chapter explores the basic principles governing these phenomena, with numerous examples and applications to everyday life. Throughout the book, the author emphasizes the interconnectedness of physical phenomena, showing how they can be understood as manifestations of a few fundamental laws. By providing a clear and accessible introduction to these laws, this book empowers readers to develop a deeper appreciation of the physical world and its workings. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781330578063_0
