Excerpt from Stoichiometry
It was also in consequence of the determination of the specific gravities of nitrogen and oxygen by Lord Rayleigh and by Leduc that doubt was first felt as to the accuracy of the value found by Stas for the atomic weight of nitrogen, and it is chie?y owing to further investigations of the physical properties of these gases, and of other gaseous compounds of nitrogen, that the lower value has been definitely adopted.
I have therefore thought it best, after describing the laws of chemical combination, to give a detailed account of the properties of. Gases before proceeding to a discussion of the methods of determining atomic weights.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the fundamental principles of chemistry and physics called "stoichiometry", the study of the quantitative relationships between the elements and compounds that make up matter. The author, an esteemed professor of chemistry, begins by establishing the historical context of stoichiometry, tracing its origins from ancient atomic theories to the precise experimental methods developed by 19th-century scientists. The book then delves into the concepts of atomic weights, molecular weights, and the periodic table, providing a comprehensive understanding of the structure and properties of matter. It also examines the relationships between gases and liquids, exploring topics such as the kinetic theory of gases, the laws of thermodynamics, and the critical point. This book is a valuable resource for students and professionals in chemistry, physics, and related fields, offering a deep understanding of the fundamental principles that govern the behavior of matter. Its insights into the quantitative relationships between elements and compounds provide a solid foundation for further exploration in these fields.
