The author argues that the tragic drama requires a more complex and thorough catharsis. The author makes a case that the tragic catharsis should not be thought of as only being in the denouement or in connection to overcoming merely individualistic emotional responses. The author's position is that the catharsis results from the way in which suspense calls for all available energy of the psychos to solve the problem, while demanding more of the intellect than in other dynamic art forms. Therefore, any elements in the psychos that are not in harmony with the fundamentals needed to solve the problem are deprived of the energy necessary for their continuous existence and are thus purged away.
