Synopsis

Build a skilled garment workforce through practical training and cooperative study.

This nonfiction report examines Cincinnati’s garment industries and how hands-on training and shop-floor collaboration create competent workers. It highlights the city’s vocational study as part of a broader industrial survey, and credits a team of educators, manufacturers, and public schools for gathering data and shaping recommendations. The book outlines the scope of the study, the major industries involved, and the key factors that influence training needs and workforce development.

What you’ll read about:
  • How on‑the‑job practice and classroom learning can prepare workers for specialized garment trades
  • The roles of schools, employers, and unions in supporting vocational education
  • The balance between general education and technical know‑how in garment occupations
  • A structured approach to training, evaluation, and progression in the industry
Experiencing this edition will help readers understand why trained workers are essential for Cincinnati’s garment economy and how schools and manufacturers can collaborate to strengthen the workforce. Ideal for students, educators, and industry professionals seeking a practical view of vocational training in early 20th‑century garment work.

Présentation de l'éditeur

Cincinnati; and it is perhaps of some general interest, historically, because of its being one of the traditional womens occupations, that has increased and not waned in importance. It is gratifying, therefore, to know of this definite effort, looking towards the future progress and welfare of so large a body of industrial workers. Such a descriptive analysis as the one following, which shows the advantages and drawbacks in this trade, and which sets forth the educational possibilities for development, ought to increase interest, and ought to help to dignify this necessary, useful and honorable trade. Hence it is a privilege to say a word by way of preface to a study which champions the cause of women workers, for whose progress too few really care; the public, in the main, being interested only in the products of their labor. IS uch efforts as this made by the Chamber of Commerce is helping to develop, in Cincinnati sindustrial and educational life, a spirit of co-operation. We are glad, therefore, of the opportunity to further in any way so effective a method of arousing the interest of the community in its vital problems. M. EDITH CAMPBEU, Director of the Schmidlapp Bureau.
