Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book narrates the intriguing tale of Lennox and Addington, a region marked by the Indigenous Algonquin presence and later French exploration. The author paints a vivid picture of the county's humble beginnings, commencing with Champlain's 1615 expedition, who encountered wildlife teeming the area, leaving a rich legacy of relics. However, permanent settlement only began with the arrival of the United Empire Loyalists in 1784. The narrative captures the region's transition, shedding light on the motivations behind the Loyalists' emigration from America, their contributions to the region, and the evolution of Lennox and Addington into thriving municipalities. The author delves into pivotal historical events, including the county's role in the War of 1812 and the establishment of educational institutions, chronicling its transformation from a frontier outpost to a vibrant community. Through the author's meticulous research, the book unravels the county's rich tapestry of historical figures, including Samuel Casey, Peter Perry, and Sir John A. Macdonald, whose contributions shaped the region's identity. It explores the development of agriculture, industry, and commerce, highlighting the challenges and triumphs faced by the early settlers. This book is a captivating blend of history, biography, and geography, offering a fascinating glimpse into the remarkable story of Lennox and Addington, which has played a significant role in shaping the broader narrative of Canada.
