Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the role of interpersonal communication and information sources in the adoption of recommended farming practices. The author reviews research conducted by land-grant institutions, which has demonstrated that farmers go through distinct stages of awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and adoption. The book then categorizes adopters based on their adoption rate: early adopters, the majority, and late adopters. The author finds that early adopters typically have larger farms, higher incomes, are more willing to take risks, and are more actively seeking information. In contrast, late adopters tend to have smaller farms, are more security-oriented, and rely more heavily on local sources of information. The author concludes that understanding the adoption process and the role of information sources can help educators develop more effective programs to promote the adoption of new farming practices.
