A sweeping historical novel of duty, faith, and quiet courage set in a Polish town where love and loyalty are tested by danger and secrets.
In the 14th-century world of Children of Fate, the daily life of a Jewish community unfolds against a backdrop of changing rulers, fierce loyalties, and a web of ambitions. This tale follows ordinary people who must balance tradition, family, and courage when faced with trials that threaten their safety and dignity.
The story blends intimate moments of personal choice with larger forces at work—wealth, power, and prejudice—to explore how resilience and faith help characters endure and, sometimes, prevail. Written with a clear, human voice, the narrative invites readers to walk with its figures through hope, doubt, and moments of quiet heroism.
Ideal for readers who enjoy historical fiction that centers on character, community, and moral choice.

It was four oclock in the morning that Joseph Rosen, under-sexton of the Synagogue, stood on the door-step of his house, one of a row of squat Httle dwel Hngs of the Hinter Gass in Dobrzyn, Poland. His eyes swept the wondrous scene before him; he saw the golden glory that bathed the steeple of the Catholic Church, the flaming glow on trees and houses and fields, and his heart thrilled as the first lark seemed to burst her throat with song, mingling her piercing note with the music of tinkling sheep bells and the lowing of cattle. Joseph listened, while the soft breeze fanned his face and stirred his hair that hung in long black locks. A re you glad, Joseph? said a voice softly. He raised his head, and the smile that had hovered on his lips turned into something more than a smile and becam.e a benediction.
