Greek compound sentences are constructed. Before beginning Greek, boys as a general rule have worked out a considerable number of elementary Latin exercises, and this kind of work prepares the mind to deal with the difficulties caused by inflexions in language. It is therefore felt that a boy can be taken through the declensions and the conjugation of a regular verb like A ixo without a special exercise-book on this, the earliest stage in learning the language: the teacher himself can supply what is necessary, in the ordinary course of Greek Grammar lessons. This book is designed to be used as soon as a boy has passed through this preliminary stage. The exercises begin by affording practice in the formation of the chief tenses of regular verbs. Prepositions are worked in from the first, and constant practice in their use is given throughout.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a foundation Greek grammar for students completing their study of Latin. It is the fruit of many years of work spent teaching Greek to boys preparing for Oxford or Cambridge. Among the salient features are: full paradigms for regular and irregular verbs; the unusual verbs are carefully presented with translations of suitable passages for practice; the principles on which the main tenses of verbs are formed are discussed; there are examples of the chief constructions with the text; there are special vocabularies for practice; grammatical terms are explained as they arise in the text or in the special vocabularies, and, when the simple use of the terms is ascertained, references are supplied where the terms are more strictly defined. The grammar should help students to lay a secure foundation for the more advanced study of Greek prose composition. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
