Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a comprehensive analysis of a collection of Old English ballads gathered in the late 18th century and published under the title of Reliques of Ancient English Poetry. The author gives an account of the revival of interest in ballad poetry in the 18th century, before which the genre had suffered neglect and fallen from popular favour. The author also provides a critical examination of the editorial process that produced the Reliques, as well as an insightful evaluation of its impact on the course of ballad studies since its publication. This book will appeal to any reader with an interest in English literature and literary history, as it sheds light on a neglected corner of the English literary tradition. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
