Excerpt from Electrical Energy: Its Generation, Transmission, and Utilization
IN the following treatise it has been assumed that the student is in a general way familiar with the fundamental principles Of electrical engineering and to some extent with the theories Of the various phenomena and apparatus involved. For this reason, when the equations used are found in elementary text books, no endeavor is made to deduce them, but their applica tion to practical problems is given. The deductions are, how ever, made when not otherwise readily available.

This book, written by a seasoned electrical engineering practitioner, is a compilation of lectures that bridge the gap between theoretical academic knowledge and the practical problems engineers encounter in the field. The knowledge imparted in this book is not intended to replace the theoretical foundations that university education should provide, but rather as a practical guide to electrical phenomena and the apparatus involved in their control. This book is comprised of three logical parts. The first deals with Transmission lines, and the essential aspects involved in their design; voltage, current, and power factor, as well as the consequences of different connection methods. The second part of this book concentrates on power stations, their essential components, and the theoretical underpinnings of their operation. The section then goes on to analyze what can go wrong in such systems, the reasons for system failures, and ways in which to minimize the chances of such failures. The third section concerns the distribution of power, the challenges encountered, and the apparatus used. It concludes with a discussion on the relative merits of various wiring schemes and materials, taking into account their costs and utility. This book is meticulously researched and provides numerical examples of calculations used in the design and operation of electrical power systems. While electrical engineers will find this book an invaluable reference guide, it is also accessible to advanced students who may benefit from a practical perspective on the field. In all, this book provides deep insights into the complexities of electrical power systems, and should be considered essential reading for anyone involved in their design and operation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781330870563_0
