Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.
It is difficult to understand why Ramus has been so much neglected by writers upon the sixteenth century. He was probably the foremost French philosopher of his century, and he stands well among the great educators, effective orators, and lofty characters of the worlds history. In many respects he seems a striking forerunner of modern times. A lcuin, A belard, Petrarch, Valla, Erasmus, Luther, Ramus, and Descartes are milestones that mark the pathway of progress from medievalism. Yet in few general histories do the life and work of this remarkable reformer figure in any detail. In treatises written in English he is barely mentioned, and while there have been for half a century some extended accounts of his career by French writers, and of late German scholars have been making careful contributions to elucidate the various phases of his work, there scarcely exists anywhere a complete account of his achievements that includes an analysis of his works.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book dives deep into the life and work of Pierre de la RamÃÂ e, better known as Peter Ramus, a pivotal figure in sixteenth-century European education and thought. Ramus challenged the prevailing Aristotelian philosophy, which dominated universities at the time. The author vividly describes Ramus's early life, his struggles for education, and his eventual rise to prominence as a teacher and scholar. The book explores Ramus's revolutionary ideas and his fierce defense of them, which often brought him into conflict with the established academic order. Ramus's critiques of Aristotle and the scholastic system, and his passionate advocacy for a more humanistic approach to learning, are analyzed in detail. The author sets Ramus's work within the broader context of the Renaissance and the Reformation, highlighting how Ramus's embrace of classical learning and his rejection of traditional dogma connected him to broader intellectual and religious currents of his era. This book offers a captivating portrait of a man who dared to challenge the intellectual giants of his time, ultimately shaping the course of education and thought in Europe.
