This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating history of the Seleucid dynasty, a Greek ruling house that emerged after the death of Alexander the Great and held sway over vast swaths of Western Asia for nearly three centuries. The author explores how the Seleucids, as Greek kings presiding over a predominantly Asian empire, navigated the complex cultural and political landscape of the East, bringing Hellenic civilization to lands previously dominated by ancient empires like those of Persia and Babylon. The book examines the challenges faced by the Seleucids in their struggle to maintain power and expand their influence, battling both internal rebellions and external threats from surrounding peoples. The author reveals the intricacies of Hellenism's spread and interaction with established Eastern cultures, exploring the inherent tension between Greek ideals of freedom and the monarchic system that the Seleucids adopted to maintain control. The book sheds light on the dynasty's significant role in shaping the historical trajectory of the region, demonstrating how the Seleucids inadvertently contributed to the future rise of Roman dominance. The book provides a compelling analysis of this little-known dynasty's impact on the development of Western civilization and its lasting influence on the political and cultural landscape of the East.
