Previous historians have charged that the Americans lost the day at Hobkirks Hill owing to the fault or mistake of Colonel Gunby and extended their censure to the brave troops commanded by him. The author provides evidence to show that Gunby and his men fought valiantly and that Gunby, far from deserving blame for the American defeat, should instead be considered a hero of the battle. The book also provides a rich description of the War of Independence and its significance, emphasizing the tremendous scope of the subject, and the influence it continues to have on the world's history.
