Dr. Guy, has thrown upon me the entire responsibility of preparing a new edition of his well-known Principles of Forensic Medicine. The original aim, general character and arrangements, have been adhered to, and I have contented myself with revising, pruning, and making such additions and modifications as seemed necessary to bring the work up to date. Special care has been exercised to prevent the book growing beyond the bounds of a convenient manual. It will be observed that the size of the page has been enlarged, and that thick black type has been used for the headings and points of chief importance ;changes which it is hoped will be appreciated by the student. Five new figures have been added: three illustrating suicidal bullet wounds (F igs. 36, 37, and 38), one replacing the old figure of spectra of blood solutions (F ig. 40), and one of Bacillus anthracis (F ig. 172). I have had the advantage throughout, and particularly in Part III., of the assistance of Dr. Sidney Martin, to whom I here tender my thanks and acknowledgments.
