This book is a study of the prevailing scientific and social climate in the years following World War 1, particularly as it relates to Christianity. The author examines the way that our understanding of the physical universe and the laws that govern it has changed in the past century. He argues that the prevailing scientific materialism that understood our universe to be inert and mechanical has given way to a more dynamic and spiritual understanding. Worcester contends that this new view of the universe is in line with the teachings of Christianity. He explores how the concept of God as an ever present Spirit, as well as the idea of the kingdom or rule of God already begun, have been vindicated by scientific discovery. Worcester believed that the insights of science and Christianity can be used to build a more just and harmonious world. Each can be used to inform the other as we continue to piece together an evolving understanding of our place in the Universe.
