Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is an extensive investigation into Britain's complex social issues, historical advantages, and the impact of luxury on the health and virtue of the nation. The author, a reasoned and impartial observer, provides an accurate representation of Britain's current strengths and weaknesses. Unlike the celebratory accounts of other writers or the overly critical tones of the opposition, this book acknowledges that good and bad ministers have existed throughout history, and that each political viewpoint has its merits and drawbacks. The author takes care to distinguish real national advantages from exaggerated ones, focusing on Britain's geographical situation and moderate climate, productive agriculture and manufacturing capabilities, and its unique status as an island nation. However, the author also discusses disadvantages such as press gangs and the enlisting of soldiers for life, the nation's game laws, the payment of tithes in kind, and the widespread practice of poor rates. The book also takes aim at the multiplicity of weights and measures and the labyrinthine nature of Britain's laws. Finally, the author examines the corrosive effects of luxury, which produces prodigality, effeminacy, imprisonment for debt, and overly harsh penal laws. Through this careful examination, the book provides new insights into the complex forces shaping British society and their long-term historical significance. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N de rf. du vendeur 9781331067450_0
