English texts of recent date. My greatest effort has been to present as consistent and systematic a sketch as possible of the general field of normal human psychology, elaborating the details only when they are essential to the general survey. In a field which is in great and increasing danger of becoming unsystematized to the point of chaos, even to the trained specialist, this method of introduction is absolutely essential. I have tried to show that the data of psychology cannot at present be definitely described except in terms of theories which are more or less philosophical, and that the attempt to divorce the data from the theories would result in the uncritical acceptance of fragments of theories. It is important that the student should grasp this truth in the beginning.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book offers a systematic overview of normal human psychology and its genesis in traditional philosophical and scientific theories. The author presents a historically grounded theory that our perception of the world is not straightforwardly given to us by our senses but is rather constructed by our mind. He provides a fresh perspective on the sensory world, maintaining that we don't experience the physical stimulus or neural activity that causes the sensation, but something else entirely. This something else is where the true significance of the sensation lies, and it remains a fascinating mystery to be further explored. With its focus on the relationship between psychology and philosophy, and its conceptualization of the mind as an active constructor of experience, this book provides new insights into the enigmatic nature of consciousness and its functions. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
