Explore how early high-frequency currents were used for eye, ear, skin, and broader health issues, with practical treatment methods and patient examples.
This edition compiles practical guidance on producing and applying high-frequency currents for therapeutic purposes. It covers methods like condensation and the use of glass electrodes, detailing settings and durations that practitioners of the era reported as beneficial for various conditions, from eye infections to skin diseases.
The book weaves observed results from treatment cases with notes on how these currents might influence bodily processes, including metabolism, respiration, and elimination. It presents historical examples and cautions that responses vary by patient and condition, offering a window into early electrotherapy practice and its claimed applications.
Ideal for readers of medical history, early electrotherapy, and professionals curious about vintage therapeutic approaches.

Excerpt from High Frequency Currents: Their Production, Physical Properties, Physiological Effects, and Therapeutical Uses
The favourable reception, gratefully acknowledged, already accorded to this work has led to the belief that the hope expressed in the first edition has been realized, and that the value of the judicious employment of high frequency currents in the treatment of some diseases is recognized by the medical profession, with the natural consequence that they are less exploited by incompetent people to the detriment of the public.
The whole book has now been carefully revised, and friendly criticisms duly considered. The portions relating to instrumentation and therapeutics have been, for the most part, rewritten; in the former all recent improvements are fully described, while in the latter a chapter dealing with the circulatory system has been added, and, at the risk of tediousness, the methods of procedure are plainly indicated.
The author again wishes to express his thanks to Mr. Geoffrey Pearce for valuable assistance, and also to the instrument makers for the kindly loan of blocks.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is an extensive guide to producing and understanding high frequency currents and their therapeutic applications. The author delves into the history of high frequency currents and how scientists have utilized them, from their accidental discovery to their current medical use. An especially deep dive is taken into how currents work, beginning with sources of electrical energy, and the induction coil and current interrupters, which transform lower voltage currents into higher voltage currents. The author then explains the concept of resonance and the differing effects of high frequency currents on the human body. These currents have been shown to have diverse physiological effects and this book details not only how to administer them but also their potential in treating surgical, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, alimentary, and skin conditions.
