Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is about a congress held in Moscow in 1921 for the first meeting of the Red Trade Union International. At the time, there was growing sentiment for an international organization for revolutionary labor unions independent of all political parties. However, as the author, a delegate for the I.W.W, discovered upon arriving in Moscow, the meeting was predominantly attended and controlled by Communist Party officials and their supporters. The author was part of a minority of non-Communist delegates who argued against the admission of various organizations represented by Communist delegates who had no credentials, or whose organizations were not in fact radical labor bodies. The author further argues that the structure of the congress and its resolutions were intended to ensure that the Red Trade Union International would be fully under the control of the Communist Party. The author concludes by emphasizing that the resolutions and decisions of the first Congress of the R.T.U.I. had the sole purpose of creating a rival economic international subservient to the Communist International and undermining genuinely revolutionary labor unions.
