The authors object in publishing this book is to call attention to some of the more serious evils which now disturb the repose of American society and threaten the overthrow of free institutions. We are nearing a serious crisis. If the present strained relations between wealth owners and wealth producers continue much longer they will ripen into frightful disaster. This universal discontent must be quickly interpreted and its causes removed. It is the countrys imperative Call to A ction, and can not be longer disregarded with impunity. The sovereign right to regulate commerce among our magnificent union of States, and to control the instruments of commerce, the right to issue the currency and to determine the money supply for sixty-three million people and their posterity, have been leased to associated speculators. The brightest lights of the legal profession have been lured from their honorable relation to the people in the administration of justice, and through evolution in crime the corporation has taken the place of the pirate; and finally a bold and aggressive plutocracy has usurped the Government and is using it as a policeman to enforce its insolent decrees. It has filled the Senate with its adherents, it controls the popular branch of the National Legislature by cunningly filling the Speaker schair with its representatives, and it has not hesitated to tamper with our Court of last resort.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the evolution of power in American society, focusing on the corrupting influence of wealth and the rise of a plutocracy. The author traces this trend back to the founding of the nation, highlighting how the Founding Fathers, influenced by the British model, established a system that favored the wealthy through institutions like the Senate. This book delves into the dark side of American politics, exposing how the Senate has been infiltrated by corporations and special interests, who use their wealth to control legislation and manipulate elections. The author argues that this trend has intensified in recent decades, leading to the erosion of democratic principles and the concentration of power in the hands of a select few. The book explores the consequences of this shift, including the plundering of public resources, the suppression of labor rights, and the subversion of the public good for the benefit of the privileged few. It is a powerful critique of the political and economic landscape of the author's time, offering a timely and cautionary message that resonates even today.
