Excerpt from A Budget of Paradoxes
IT is not without hesitation that I have taken upon myself the editorship of a work left avowedly imperfect by the author, and, from its miscellaneous and discursive character, difficult of completion with due regard to editorial limita tions by a less able hand. Had the author lived to carry out his purpose he would have looked through his Budget again, amplifying and probably rearranging some of its contents. He had collected materials for further illustration of Paradox of the kind treated of in this book; and he meant to write a second part, in which the contradictions and inconsistencies of orthodox learning would have been subjected to the same scrutiny and castigation as heterodox ignorance had already received.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents the author's critical analysis of approximately 150 publications by individuals who proposed theories that contradict established scientific principles. The book serves as a historical exploration of the phenomenon of scientific paradoxers, examining their motives, methods, and the reasons for their lack of success. Despite the lack of scientific grounding in their theories, the author notes that the paradoxers often exhibit a deep passion for their work, fueled by the belief that they have discovered something that has eluded others. The author argues that the study of paradoxers provides insights into the nature of scientific progress and the importance of skepticism and rigorous methodology in the pursuit of knowledge. Ultimately, this book highlights the crucial role of critical thinking and evidence-based reasoning in distinguishing genuine scientific advancements from unfounded claims. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
