During the Ecumenical Conference, held in New York, A pril 21-M a7 1, 1900, a long-contemplated plan to unite all Women s Boards of Missions in the United States and Canada in a more thorough study of missions took definite shape. At a meeting held at the close of the conference, a representative committee was appointed, and was given discretionary power to arrange the course of study and provide the method of its pursuance. Via Christi, an Introduction to the Study of Missions, is the first of a series proposed by the committee, and will be followed by studies of I ndia, China, Japan, and other countries, each volume treating of the history of all missions in the country to which it is devoted, and beginning, in each case, with the nineteenth century. This course is intended to cover a period of several years. A simple preliminary series of six lessons, in leaflet form, for use in missionary meetings, clubs, and home study, entitled Christian Missions in the Nineteenth Century, was issued by the Committee, September, 1900, the lessons being: 1.
