New edition of a celebrated Scottish poet’s work, newly corrected and enlarged for today’s readers. This collection gathers Hector Macneill’s poems and songs, including pieces not found in prior editions, carefully reorganized to reflect the author’s original sequence and language.
The book offers a wide-ranging portrait of Scottish lyric and narrative verse, combining classic ballads, intimate odes, and public songs. It presents a broader view of the poet’s career, with added pieces and revised text that reflect his mature craft and enduring appeal.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the role of music and poetry in harmonizing the minds, regulating the affections, and suppressing the turbulence of an uncivilized and barbarous people. The author argues that the progressive improvement of manners and sentiments in the southern districts of Scotland was considerably indebted to the united influence of these sister arts. By examining the origins and evolution of Scottish folk music and poetry, the book demonstrates how these expressive forms softened the hearts of warring factions, encouraged compassion, and fostered a sense of community. Through an in-depth analysis of notable pastoral and lyrical compositions, the author uncovers the ways in which music and poetry inspired virtue, peace, and the celebration of nature's charms. Ultimately, this book sheds light on the transformative power of art and the enduring legacy of Scottish folk tradition in shaping a more harmonious society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
