Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is about the many adventures of Arthur Eldridge, whose escapade begins after he decides to venture outside the grounds of his home for the first time without his family's knowledge. After traveling to the train station with his friend Frank, Arthur jumps aboard the first train he sees and ends up meeting a man who takes him to a strange house where he is held captive. During his time there, Arthur pretends to be a circus boy named Charley Maylard who was kidnapped by a cruel circus man. After several weeks, he is rescued from the house by the man who took him there and brought to a ship where he is taken care of by a married couple for several months until they reach their destination in Australia. Once there, Arthur is adopted by the couple and lives out the next several years of his life with them as their son. However, his past memories are still jumbled, and he often pretends to be Charley Maylard to explain his hazy recollections. One day, Arthur's adoptive parents encounter a couple who are searching for their lost son, Arthur, and believe their adopted son may be him. After having a meeting between the couple and Arthur to see if the couple's son's identity matches any lost memories of his past, Arthur is able to remember who he is and goes home to San Francisco with his parents.
