Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. In this book, the author explores the relationship between dependency and retardation. Using research conducted in Minneapolis in 1917, the author establishes a norm for retardation in a typical group of school children and compares this to the rates of retardation among children from families receiving financial assistance. The author finds that dependent families have a disproportionately higher number of retarded children, and that the average age of dependent children in each grade is higher than that of non-dependent children. Some of the possible causes of this retardation are discussed, including malnutrition, the instability of the families, and poor nutrition and heredity. This book sheds light on the complex relationship between poverty and academic achievement, and its insights remain relevant today, highlighting the importance of addressing the causes of retardation to promote educational equity and improve outcomes for all children This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
