Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book remembers the life and character of Beverly B. Douglas, a Democratic congressman who served in the Forty -fourth and Forty -fifth Congress. The author, who knew Douglas in the first Congress he served in, describes his friend as generous, warm -hearted, eloquent, and ever ready to defend his friends. Whilst not always right, when he was wrong it was in matters of the heart. Douglas's colleagues remember him fondly for his kindness and truthfulness. One colleague recalls a conversation with Douglas as he neared the end of his life. Douglas spoke of how Virginia had changed, how immigration had brought new blood to the area, and how the state needed that. The author uses this incident to reveal Douglas's forward -looking nature. The book closes by recounting Douglas's funeral and the author's own thoughts on the importance of remembering the deeds of those who have passed.
