Excerpt from A Conversational Tour in America
Down there immediately after breakfast I would play my two rounds, and catch the four o'clock tram back to the town in time for tea. Only, as a matter of fact, I knew Phyllis would be out on the sands gathering health and exercising the dog, and it would be bad for both of them if any expectation of meeting me brought the habit of returning to the hotel too early. 80 it came to pass that I generally went to the Wigwam (as we called the social club in the town) and enjoyed a little bridge or billiards or intellectual conversa tion over the day's golf until the clock pointed to dinner-time. Then I would dash hastily back to the hotel and change.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This memoir chronicles the author's journey across America, venturing from New York through Boston, and into Canada. The author comes from England and contrasts "over there" with "over here," making keen observations about the landscape, society, and culture. Along the way, he reflects upon the ways of life on both sides of the Atlantic, sometimes to the amusement of the locals he meets. Humorous anecdotes from his travels describe the differences between English and American society. He explores Salem and ponders the infamous witch trials. The book also provides historical context to his experiences, providing a fuller picture of the places and people he encounters. His descriptions of the United States in the early 20th century are an insightful look at a time of significant change, and relevant even in our changing times.
