Excerpt from Tracts on Liberty of Conscience and Persecution
IN the prospectus of the Hanserd Knollys Society it was stated, that to the baptists belongs the honour of first asserting in this land, and of establishing on the immutable basis of just argument and scripture rule, the right of every man to worship God as conscience dictates, in submission only to divine command. The Council have now the pleasure of laying before the Subscribers the earliest writings extant in our lan guage, on this deeply important subject.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the emergence of the concept of liberty of conscience and the defense of religious beliefs in England, looking particularly at the writings of the founders of the Baptist denomination. The author has sourced extracts from original historical documents, enabling readers to explore the arguments for religious tolerance presented by these early Baptists. These writers argued their case against the backdrop of religious persecution during the reigns of Henry VIII and Mary. Their writings offer valuable insights into the struggles for religious freedom, and the development of ideas of conscience and tolerance. These ideas were to shape the development of the Baptist movement and have a lasting legacy on the establishment of religious liberty that would ultimately extend throughout Great Britain and her empire. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781331363828_0
